The European Commission announces project competition in the frameworks of European Initiative on development of democracy and protection of human rights

European parliament founded European initiative on development of democracy and protection of human rights in 1994. Its main goal - to promote protection of human rights, democracy and prevent conflicts on countries outside the European Community through financial assistance to projects that would promote achievement of the above-mentioned goals. In 2002 European Commission determined such priorities in the frameworks of European initiative on development of democracy and protection of human rights:

-          democratization

-          effective government

-          rule of law

Specific goals of the program for Ukraine:

-          to improve access to justice

-          to monitor and prepare reports in the sphere of human rights protection and advocacy

-          to improve system of rule of law and juridical ways to protect human rights

Total amount of money that will be spent in the frameworks of the projects of this Initiative is 40 million Euro.

The minimal amount of grant is 300,000 Euro

The maximal amount of grant in 1,5 mln. Euro

The maximum length of project - 36 months  

Ukrainian NGO and educational establishments are welcome to apply for grants.  

The deadline is November 5, 2002
