The President of Ukraine Open letter Dear Mr. President! We, as the representatives of human rights non-governmental organizations, received your invitation for the meeting, which will be held on December 10th, International Day of Human Rights. We are very grateful for this invitation and value the fact that governmental bodies of Ukraine remember ratification of the International Declaration of human rights in 1948. However we consider it reasonable to refuse from this invitation. Reasons for such decision might be interesting for public of Ukraine and international community. Evaluating your recent activity, actions of your administration, executive bodies, we think that there is no atmosphere of normal dialogue between civic society organizations and bodies of power. Bodies of the state power of Ukraine are trying to place themselves over the society in which they live, neglecting civil rights, freedoms and citizens' will. Among these actions is initiated referendum by "national initiative", brutal interference of governmental bodies in the election process during Parliamentary elections, pressure on representatives of political opposition, introduction of political censorship, etc. It resulted in strengthened political confrontation in our society, isolation of Ukraine from integration processes in Europe. We do not approve your approach to civic institutions: Day of disabled you spend one hour at the meeting with disabled, Victory day - meeting with veterans, Women's day - meeting with women, Human rights day - meeting with human rights NGO. It is our belief that such meetings do not help solving problems, but are rather used by politicians to improve their own image. Such role and form of communication is unacceptable for us.
